With divorce rates hitting an all-time high, the recently single crowd is a demographic that appears to be spurring on the multi-family market in all areas of the city.
“It’s a really interesting group,” shares Charron Ungar, president of Avi Urban, noting that it has been fueling demand in both the new townhome and apartment-style condominium market for quite some time.
Todd Broadbent, sales manager at Avi Urban’s Edison townhome project in Calgary’s southeast area of Walden agrees.
“We are definitely seeing that niche looking for homes. Especially with 50 per cent of marriages ending in divorce, people are looking to downsize to simpler product.”
Having experienced a divorce a few years ago, Broadbent, who is in his 40s, knows first-hand the challenges facing the recently single crowd when sourcing a new place to live.
