A Calgary legion that is scrambling to find new headquarters and ensure its survival after a construction deal collapsed may soon have new offers to consider.
The Kensington Legion, which boasts more than 1,600 members, had been in talks with a local developer to swap some of its inner-city land in exchange for a new, revenue-generating building elsewhere on the site.
But Streetside Developments signalled it was walking away from the deal after the city demanded the company pay $1.5 million for a small strip of nearby land.
The move sparked fears about the future for one of Canada’s largest legions.
But a Calgary developer and operator of seniors homes said Sunday it wants to meet with the Kensington Legion to explore a potential partnership that would replace the group’s 50-year-old headquarters.
