Rona plans new stores next year as profit surges 30% on same-store sales boost

Two years after Rona Inc. spurned a takeover bid from U.S. rival Lowe’s Cos. and later had to close a number of poorly performing big-box stores, the home improvement chain is wearing a gleaming coat of paint.

The Boucherville, Que-based chain is back in growth mode after reporting a 30% jump in net profit and its first increase in same-store sales, a key retail metric, in four years.
