Convention centre seeks city’s help to find new site for expansion

Convention centre directors want the city’s help scouting downtown sites for an expansion, after losing their preferred location to an office tower development.

Telus Convention Centre’s board had been in talks with the owner of the land flanking Calgary Tower, to develop a massive exhibition hall and meeting space — plus hotel — that could have straddled the tower and the rail tracks.

But in the board’s planning work for a bigger facility and then funding requests for more planning.
