Calgary homeowners get property tax break

The 2014 civic property tax hike councillors set in November — 4.8 per cent — is the same amount they ratified Monday, in their first actual rebuke of Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s policy of extra “tax room” increases.

It means Calgarians will enjoy a rare and one-time tax reduction on their bills this year, a $41 drop from the yearly property taxes the typical homeowner paid last year.
